Tras impacto, se incendia Boeing 737 de Sunwing en el Aeropuerto de Pearson

Dos aviones de las compañías Sunwing y WestJet, respectivamente, impactaron entre sí cuando se encontraban haciendo maniobras de rodaje sobre plataforma en la Terminal 3 del Aeropuerto Internacional de Pearson, en Toronto, provocando el incendio de uno de los aviones.

Según revela la prensa local a través de una entrevista realizada al portavoz de la aerolínea WestJet, el accidente se produjo cuando el vuelo WS2425 procedente del Internacional de Cancún, con 168 personas a bordo se encontraba en la Terminal 3 esperando alguna puerta de embarque disponible, mientras que el Boeing 737 matrícula C-FPRP de Sunwing era remolcado a través de un tractor.

Algunas imágenes revelan que una de las semi alas del avión de WestJet impactó contra el cono del Boeing 737 de Sunwing, sección donde se ubicada la Planta Auxiliar de Potencia (APU, en inglés), que suministra energía a la aeronave y utiliza combustible.

Al momento del incendio, la tripulación de WestJet comenzó la evacuación de todos los pasajeros a través de los toboganes. Extarorficialmente se ha dado a conocer que existe una pequeña cantidad de personas con heridas leves, mismas que han sido trasladadas a hospitales cercanos. No se reportan muertos.

El personal de rescate del aeropuerto trabajó para sofocar el incendio. Según miembros de la Junta de Seguridad en el Transporte de Canadá, acudieron al aeropuerto para analizar lo ocurrido e iniciar con las investigaciones.

WestJet has confirmed that WS2425, a Boeing 737-800 with 168 guests and six crew onboard, inbound from Cancun to Toronto Pearson, while waiting to proceed to the gate and stationary, was struck by a Sunwing aircraft pushing back from the gate.

There were no Sunwing crew or passengers onboard at the time of the incident. We are awaiting further information from Swissport and will provide more details as they become available.
